Frequently Asked Questions: Grass Fed Beef

Please reach us at freshtracksfarmwa@gmail.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.

Regenerative Agriculture is a holistic approach to land management that aims to not only farm productively, but to keep water in the landscape, improve soil health, store carbon and increase biodiversity.

We take a deposit to secure your order because the final weight of your beef won’t be known until after processing. Our price is $22 per kilogram (excluding bones), and once your beef has been processed, we’ll calculate the final total based on the actual weight. We’ll then send you an invoice for the remaining balance, which is due before you pick up your order. This ensures you only pay for the exact amount of beef you receive.

Our beef is priced at $22 per kilogram (excluding bones). Based on approximate weights, you can expect:

Half steer: 90–100 kg — $1,980 to $2,200

Quarter steer: 40–50 kg — $880 to $1,100

Eighth steer: 20–25 kg — $440 to $550

The final cost will be confirmed after processing, as the exact weight may vary. A deposit is required at the time of order, with the balance due before pickup or delivery.

We deliver to Bunbury and surrounds by appointment. We do travel to Perth on occasion, so please get in touch and we can arrange a suitable time for delivery.

All our beef and lamb is 100% grass fed and grass finished. We don't use chemicals, pesticides or synthetic fertilisers on our pastures. We are a small, family run farm and we have made the decision to invest the substantial cost of becoming certified organic into projects that aim to restore the landscape and ecosystem. These projects include tree planting, multi-species cover cropping, soil testing and fencing for restoration projects and grazing management. We are planning to offer farm tours in 2024, to increase transparency, strengthen customer confidence and to show off all the amazing projects we have happening on the farm.

In Australia, the term ‘grass-fed’ is unregulated, which means it can be used to label meat that has come from cattle born on grass but finished on a grain-based diet. While grass makes up the majority of the animal’s feed, they may also be fed grain to supplement their diet when pastures are poor. Many “grass-fed” cows spend the last few months of their lives eating grain in feedlots to help them gain weight.

Our beef is 100% grass-fed and grass-finished, on pastures that are chemical and fertiliser free. We rotate our cattle using a planned rotation program which ensures a constant supply of grass for our cattle. Apart from being delicious, grass-fed offers the following benefits:

  • Lower total fat content
  • More heart-healthy omega-3 fatty acids
  • More antioxidant vitamins, such as vitamin E
  • High levels of beta-carotene, selenium and conjugated linolic acid

Grass fed and finished beef is often said to have a complex, robust flavour and yellowish fat colour. Grain fed beef tends to have more marbling than grass fed beef, resulting in a more buttery flavour, and the fat is pure white. When  it comes to choosing between the two, it’s simply a case of personal preference.

Brenton and the team from the Goat and Goose craft butchery in Carey Park expertly process and package the meat box orders for our beef.

We hope to offer open farm days in the future. Be sure to connect with us on our Instagram and Facebook pages to stay in the loop.
